Here are more MIDI Synth songs taken from archives that were uploaded to the Internet news group alt.binaries.sounds.music last fall. Synthfile's description of the sequence files... I used Combo.bnk on the first and last movements because they required instruments that released their notes quickly. Feel free to experiment with a different sound! The raw MIDI files were translated to MIDI Synth format by MIDI Surgeon, published in the Jan/Feb 1994 issue of GS+ magazine. For information, write GS+ Magazine, P.O. The composition is for strings only. The movements are: 1. Allegro 2. Romanze 3. Menuetto 4. Rondo The first two movements were uploaded previously as Allegro.wrk & Romanze.wrk. These movements have not been changed from the uploaded version except for the following minor modifications: 1. In the original version all four instruments were assigned to the same MIDI channel (1). Now, each instrument has its own channel: Violin 1 - Channel 9 Violin 2 - Channel 10 Viola - Channel 11 Violincello - Channel 12 Of course you may change these settings to suit your set-up using Cakewalk's Forced Channel feature (Ch). 2. Since uploading the first two mvts., I have altered my strings patch to make the attack faster (more below). When playing these movements using the new patch, the sound was very harsh. Therefore, using the Velocity offset feature of Cakewalk, I have toned down the Vel. level of Mvts. 1 & 2. Since Cakewalk doesn't change the actual recorded Vel levels, those using the MIDIfile format might want to adjust the Vel level manually as follows: Movement 1- Allegro Violin 1 - (-7) Violin 2 - (-17) Viola - (-17) Violincello - (-17) Movement 2- Romanze Violin 1 - (-5) Violin 2 - (-14) Viola - (-11) Violincello - (-15) In my Cakewalk setup, I use a timebase of 192ppq; try not to use a lower setting if at all possible. As stated earlier, the original M-1 strings patch was modified to make it "faster". Those changes are as follows: M-1 (Original) M-1 (New) VDA1 Vel. Sens. EG time= 60 VDA1 Vel. Sens. EG time= 16 After touch Pitch MG= 03 After touch Pitch MG= 02 Effect 1 = 23 Exciter: OFF Effect 1 = 23 Exciter: ON Effect 1 EQ High [dB]=+06 Effect 1 EQ High [dB]=+00 Effect 2(Hall) Reverb time=3.8 Effect 2(Hall) Reverb time=3.1 Dry:Eff balance 80:20 Dry:Eff balance 78:22 I've tried to make a good sequence and I believe I have succeeded here. They are yours to do as you see fit. I only ask two things: 1.- Please give credit (blame?) where credit is due. After listening to this serenade, a comment/suggestion would be greatly appreciated and- 2.- If you upload this work to another BBS, please submit it in it's original unaltered form, including this text file. Thank you. Art Acuna Compuserve (72261,3244) Genie(AAcuna1)
