Why EINet servers? Because you want to make your business information available to your partners, suppliers, customers, and prospects. Because you want to protect information from unauthorized users and control authorized users' access. Because you want to minimize administrative overhead, not add to it.

A Line of Servers, Including Technical Support

The Internet employs various technologies for finding and accessing information. EINet offers a line of servers for the popular Internet services:

And you don't have to be an Internet guru to install and use the servers--EINet provides complete technical guidance and support.

EINet servers are available for systems running:

WWW Server

The World Wide Web (WWW) is a hypermedia-based client/server system. A WWW client presents information as documents in which some of the text may be highlighted. To get more information, users select the highlighted text (called hypertext) and a new document is displayed.

Documents can be multimedia--they can contain text or pictures or sound or even movies. And documents can be located anywhere--on the user's local disk or on a server in another country.

WWW clients can display information from other Internet systems, such as FTP and WAIS. So why use a WWW server? With a WWW server, you can make your information immediately accessible--it doesn't have to be in hypermedia format. But, you provide for the ability to upgrade the information to hypermedia in the future. And hypermedia is a powerful mechanism for organizing and presenting information.

With the EINet Secure World Wide Web Server, you can present your information in hypermedia format and control who can access each document.

WAIS Server

Wide Area Information Servers (WAIS) is a client/server system that searches indexed material and finds documents based on their content. Documents can be multimedia, such as text or pictures or sound.

To make information available through a WAIS server, the information must be indexed. For example, each word in a text document is generally indexed. Using a WAIS client, a person specifies one or more keywords, which the WAIS client sends to a WAIS server. The server searches its index for the words and returns a list of the documents that contain the words. The list includes a score indicating how well the document meets the search criteria. The user can further refine the search using relevance feedback--telling the server to find documents similar to ones already found.

With the EINet Secure WAIS Server, you can make collections of documents accessible while controlling who can access each document.

FTP Server

The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is used for transferring files between computers. It doesn't matter where the computers are located and they don't even need to use the same operating system. Both text (ASCII) and binary data can be transferred.

The EINet Secure FTP Server provides security at three different levels to control who can transfer which files.

Telnet Server

Telnet is used to log into other computers. The user can sit at the keyboard of one computer and connect and log into a different computer. The other computer might be in the same room or it might be on a different continent.

Using the EINet Secure Telnet Server, you can provide users a well-accepted method of connecting to your server while controlling which accounts each user can access.

News Server

Network news is similar to online discussion or special interest groups. They are somewhat like e-mail, but provide a way for users to easily take part in many discussions while keeping the discussions organized and separate from e-mail.

With the EINet Secure News Server, you can set up your own newsgroups and control who can read, post, and transmit news.

Flexible, Yet Tight Security

To control access to your resources, you need an integrated security mechanism that: All EINet secure servers perform authentication to make sure users requesting information are who they say they are. All EINet secure servers enable you to restrict access on a resource-by-resource basis.

EINet security enables the creation of a virtual private intra-enterprise and intercompany network.

GUI-based Server Administration Tool

Configuration is the most difficult task facing the manager of an information server. The EINet Information Server Console greatly simplifies this task. The Information Server Console makes it possible for administrators to quickly set up new servers and to change information as needed.

With the Information Server Console you can:
