Overview:

What is the Image Library and
Diagnostics System CD-ROM?

T
he 'Image Library and Diagnostics System CD-ROM' consists of two software parts: The first is the Image Library software, and the second the Hardware Diagnostic software. These are independent of each other, and are used separately.

WHAT IS THE IMAGE LIBRARY?
: The HP Image Library is an application and a set of drivers and HP utilities for your HP PCs on this CD-ROM. The drivers and utilities are specially packaged to enable you to perform automatic installations to your PC. You can use Image Library to reinstall one or more (or all) of these software elements. A friendly user interface facilitates the selection and loading of all drivers, HP utilities, and third-party applications.

You can use Image Library as part of the process to reinstall the whole operating system , plus all drivers and utilities originally loaded, or you can use Image Library alone, and just choose to reinstall one or more drivers and/or utilities by selecting elements individually.

In normal circumstances HP recommends that you carry out the full reinstallation, including all drivers and utilities originally loaded.

WHAT ARE THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS?
: The CD-ROM also contains a package to carry out hardware diagnostics called HP e-DiagTools. You can run e-DiagTools by booting the PC from this CD.

DiagTools will check the configuration of your system and verify that it is running correctly. It will identify any hardware problems and provide precise information which can be passed to your HP-dedicated support agents if necessary.

Note: In this text, the Image Library and Diagnostics System CD-ROM is called ILD-CD or simply ILD, for brevity.

Quick Start

How to start and use Image Library
How to start e-DiagTools

To Start the Image Library:
As this HTML document is included in the Image Library software, you may have already started the Image Library and Diagnostics CD in order to read this text page. Simply place the ILD CD-ROM in the drive while your PC is running. The Windows 'AutoPlay' function will detect the CD-ROM and start the Image Library software automatically.

Alternatively (or if AutoPlay is disabled) enter the command line D:\FrontPanel.exe (where D:\ is the letter designating your optical drive).

To enter this command from Windows, click on Start, then select Run. Type the command into the panel provided and click on OK.

When the Welcome Screen opens, select the option Launch Installer of drivers and utilities, to begin the reinstallation process. Follow the on-screen instructions.

You will be asked what type of installation you want:

MINIMUM: Installs only the drivers for auto-detected hardware
CUSTOM: You are prompted to select the components to install
MAXIMUM: All HP drivers, utilities, and 3d-party licenced applications are installed.

A Installation Log File is automatically recorded.

For further information on the installation sequence, see Chapter 3 of the User's Guide.

To Start e-DiagTools: to start the hardware diagnostics (e-DiagTools) you must boot your PC from this CD-ROM.

To do this; with the "ILD" CD-ROM in the CD-drive, power-off your PC using the correct shut-down procedure. For security (to avoid current surge) wait a few seconds, then turn the PC back on to begin the boot process. At the beginning of the boot, press F8 to select the BIOS Setup screen of your PC. Ensure that option PNP is set to 'No' and the BIOS boot sequence is set to boot first from the optical drive.

When the PC boots from the CD-Drive, the e-DiagTools program will run automatically and open the first screen of the hardware diagnostics. Follow the instructions on-screen.

Note that under any Windows Operating System, you cannot access DiagTools on this CD unless you boot from the CD.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Questions most commonly asked by our users, plus the replies.

To date, one question is current:

Q: In which directory can I find the drivers for the Windows 2000 operating system (they do not appear to be on the CD)?

A: Most Windows 2000 drivers are integrated into the Windows 2000 operating system itself. They form a part of the OS executable file and therefore they are not present as seperate files.

LAN Card Drivers
and Network Protocols

Network Protocols installed by default

When LAN drivers are installed, a random hostname is automatically generated to ensure that there is no conflict with any other PC on the network.
