HP Lock Installation Notes for Vectra PCs under Win NT4.0 (Build 1381)

Version

IMPORTANT WARNING:

Before installing this version of HP Lock, it is necessary to uninstall any older version of NTLOCK and any version of SOFTPOWERDOWN older than SPD0602 already installed.

If this version is installed on top of NTLOCK 2.11 please look at the section "Installation warning" before installing this version.

Overview

HP Lock provides an enhanced solution for security, ergonomy and power management in the Windows NT environment. With HP Lock you can:

Specifications

HP Lock has been designed for Windows NT 4.0.

It is based on specific BIOS support functions but is compatible with all legacy BIOS supporting HP Private Entries. More or less HP Lock functionalities are available, depending on what functions are supported by your BIOS.

HP Lock is intended for use on x86 processors only (single or dual

processors), and on HP Vectra or HP Kayak only.

CAUTION:

It is recommended that you set the Low Power Standby time-out within the range 30 to 60 minutes. (If you set a lower value, you may affect the life expectancy of connected disks.)

It is also recommended that you set the Disks Low Power Standby time-out greater than the Monitor Low Power Standby time-out and/or the Shut Off Monitor time-out.

When using more than 1 IDE disk in your system, boot time may be slightly longer (3 seconds more maximum), due to power management initialization. This is not the case while using any number SCSI disks.

When using SCSI disks in your system, it is required to explicitly set, at least one time, disks settings in HP Lock applet, to ensure proper power management initialization.

This is not the case while using any number IDE disks.

Note: Power management of SCSI disks IS NOT supported on systems using one of the following piece of hardware (typically, Kayak systems):

Disks power management can be partially supported on systems using both IDE and SCSI disks, especially if more than 4 disks are connected. That is, if you're using 2 SCSI disks on an Adaptec adapter and 2 IDE disks, only one of the two SCSI disks will be power managed; and both IDE disks will be power managed.

Power management of the monitor IS supported on systems using a 3D Graphic adapter Visualize Fx, but having the monitor switched in standby mode can take longer than configured time-outs.

Remark1: Check your system is using a SCSI Adaptec Fast Raid solution by:

Remark2: You can discover which 3D Graphic adapter your system is using by:
