PIPER CUB J/3-F-50

The Piper Cub is described as the world's most common private aeroplane. More than 14.000 were built for civil use and approx. 6000 for military use. Before the Piper Cub came the nearly identical Taylor Cub which was built in America by the two pioneers C.G. Taylor and William T. Piper

In 1937 they went their separate ways and built their own aircraft under the new names Taylorcraft and Piper.

In 1938 The Piper Cub Aircraft Co opened a factory in Denmark based at Lundtofte Airfield (near Copenhagen). The capacity was 8-10 aircraft per month.

The museum's Cub OY-ABT was built at the Lundtofte factory in 1938 but was not licensed until 1948 because of the war. It was originally supplied with a 38 h.p. Franklin engine but in 1962 it had a 50 h.p. Franklin engine installed.
The aircraft was donated to DV by Bertel Kring, Risskov
