Because appropriate spacing for mathematics is provided automatically, you don't need to use the spacebar to type additional ordinary spaces. In fact, the spacebar doesn't work if the insertion point is in mathMath_text.tex. However, in some situations the program doesn't have enough information to space your mathematics exactly as you want it and you may occasionally want to add a little extra space to an expression. These spaces are provided:
Space | Size |
---|---|
Em space | width of M |
2-em space | width of MM |
Normal | 1/6 em |
Required | 1/6 em |
Non-breaking | 1/6 em |
Thin space | 2/9 em |
Thick space | 5/18 em |
Zero space | 0 em |
Negative thin space | -2/9 em |
