Magnesium deficiency appears to have caused 8 million sudden coronary deaths in America alone from 1940-1994, based on census data and studies of similar deaths conducted in other countries. These articles deal with the current status of the magnesium catastrophe, the calculation of American deaths caused by magnesium deficiency, justification of these calculations, citizens' petition to FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to support voluntary fortification of beverages with magnesium, and the economics of magnesium fortification.
