While counting down the days to the opening of the Centennial Olympic Games, the official Web page for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games features introductory material on the coming festival in Atlanta, Georgia. After listening to a brief audio welcome from CEO Billy Payne, choose sports and venues to find detailed information about any of the 271 medal events. Picking swimming, for instance, from an icon bar leads the user to discipline's program, details of the official natatorium, and background material on the Pan Pacific Games (an important 1995 test of some of the world's top Olympic hopefuls). The site includes a calendar, searchable by sport, day, or location; travel and ticket information; and promotions for official sponsors and licensed goods. The multimedia highlight is probably the virtual flythrough of the Olympic Stadium. Hopefully, the page will expand to include more previews of the sports themselves, as well as results.
