Everything begun when I installed the ShapeShifter Macintosh emulation a couple of days ago. Quickly I found that the built in native ECS/AGA support was practically useless in everything except mono so I downloaded AmigaAGA-EVD, AGABoost, Savage and host of other external video drivers (EVDs). Thanks to this novel concept people can write their own video drivers to achieve better speed and features. Allthough most of these drivers helped a bit I was not too satisfied with the results. That's why I decided to write one of my own which in turn resulted as TurboEVD.
TurboEVD is an external video driver (EVD) for ShapeShifter and the native Amiga video hardware (ECS/AGA). It is aimed to maximise the speed so it uses advanced chunky to planar routines (developed by Mikael Kalms and me) and the MMU in M68040 or M68060 in conjunction with a delta buffer. With these techniques only the updated regions of the display have to be copied to the slow chip ram.
The newest versions of TurboEVD are always available from my home page at http://www.helsinki.fi/~amlaukka/projects/projects.html and from aminet in misc/emu/TurboEVD.lha.
