First Steps

When you load 'Beat It', (after the installation process) you will come across a disclaimer. It's a sad day when people are trying to give away their work for free but have to include a disclaimer to cover themselves. Any way after you click 'I Agree' you will be presented with a blank screen and a windows entitled 'Sample Dock'.

After loading your samples through the 'Sample Dock' you will now be able to use them throughout the program. A thing to do first is to make sure that the samples were loaded correctly and that they sound right. Click on the tools menu and chose 'Sample Pad' test to make sure your samples have been loaded correctly.

To setup the properties of the samples such as desired frequency, volume and panning of the individual samples click the tool menu and then click 'Properties'. You can also chose if the sample is a loop or a one shot sample. You can also pause the sample here and play it from the pause position.

By now we should have all our samples loaded and our sound card setup so lets setup our key associations for our 'Tap Pad' to do this click on the menu item file and then 'Key Associations'.

If you want to change the way your sample sounds, I included a 'Keyboard' tool for just that reason. It works in much the same way that the 'Tap Pad' does, except that it concentrates on one sample at a time and changes the frequency of the sample.

The 'FX' is just a simple tool to stop all samples at once and play another one. Its a simple tool but it can have a lot of use say playing a voice as a break. Or cutting to another loop.

Another usefull tool I included is the 'Cross Fader' im sure most people would be farmiliar with the concept. But if not it just allows you to fade between two samples.

Once you come up with something you like your going to want to record it. Click tools from the menu and then click Record. Record your result in real-time as you go.
